SGP stands for Small Grants Program (GEF UNDP/SGP)was initiated in India in 1996-1997 with a motive of improving the environmental conditions by inviting the locals, communities and other organizations in order to make them total responsible in eradicating the global environmental problems. SPG Program is organized by Center for Environment Education (CEE) in India and worldwide it is United Nation Development Program (UNDP). SGP program in India is expanded in almost every state and union territory, having seven regional offices and twenty
Three field offices. In India there are hundreds of projects undertaken in order to overcome the environmental problems in all main five areas where climatic change, Conservation of Biodiversity, Land Degradation, International Waters, etc occurs.
Working Structure Of SGP Program
There is a deep rooted concept related to the program that by involving the locals the environmental problems can be checked in better ways. With this thought the SGP program is making arrangements of funding the members of local communities in order to enable them to take the activities with full enthusiasm and will and a vast difference in lives and the environment and taking the benefit also.
Principles Related To SGP
There are main four founding doctrines around which the whole program works such as Participation, democracy, flexibility, and transparency. SGP program invites and encourages the participation of different sections of the society like local's, different communities and other associations in every aspect of program like planning, designing, and enforcement. The grants and funds may differ project wise. The maximum amount may be fifty thousand US dollars and minimum may be twenty thousand US dollars.
