In the year 2003-2004, two main buildings were acquired in Canterbury, a huge office block previously known as Clarkson House was demolished and replaced by Augustine House, the home of the University's library and student support services. In the year 2009, the University constructed a sports centre.
The Canterbury Campus of Canterbury Christ Church University is the original site for the University, which was established in 1962 as a teacher training college. It now provides a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across four faculties: Arts and Humanities; Education; Business and Management; Health and Social Care and Social and Applied Sciences. The University is the biggest centre of higher education in Kent for the public services, particularly in teacher training, nursing, social care and policing. The nearby disused church of St.Gregory has been established as a performance centre for the University's choirs and musical ensembles.
The University Centre Folkestone commenced in September 2007 in partnership with the University of Greenwich. Canterbury Christ Church offers a unique range of programmes at UCF which can be taken as full time and part time. These include Performing Arts; Visual Art and Professional Practice; Entrepreneurship (collaborated with a creative subject); Early Years Education and Professional Development by Work Based Learning. Medway Campus was established in October 2004 as part of the Universities at Medway partnership, which consists of the three universities; Canterbury Christ Church University, the University of Greenwich and the University of Kent. The Broadstairs Campus' wide of teaching and learning facilities are in three purpose-built buildings including areas with acoustic and sound isolation specifications and a simulated hospital ward. The University inherited Salomon's from the NHS in the year 1995.
Infrastructure: The student centre and library established in 2010, Augustine House is the multi-million pound development, with modern learning spaces and a new library; Wi-Fi throughout, and a free laptop loaning service for all students. The Christ Church Sports Centre was set up in 2010 by double Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes. IT and library facilities has access to all electronic publications and journals and over 335,000 books to support your studies. The newly refurbished bookshop has above 30,000 general and academic titles in stock.
Faculty: Teaching and research work is combined within the four faculties each led by a Pro Vice-Chancellor and/or a Dean of Faculty, who reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor. Arts and Humanities teach Art, English and Language Studies, History and American Studies, Music and Theology, Media (both practical and theoretical), and Religious Studies. Education provides undergraduate and postgraduate initial teacher education programmes, and expanding masters’ level provision. Health and Social Care adopts an inter professional approach to education across majority of its programmes. Social and Applied Sciences is the centre to the departments of Applied Social Sciences, Applied Psychology, Computing, Law and Criminal Justice Studies, and Sport Science, Geography and Life Sciences, Tourism and Leisure, and the Business School.
