The park was opened in 1870. Before the establishment of the amusement park, the Cedar Point peninsula was popular for fishing and it comprises a number of Cedar trees. Initially, the site served as a port for fishermen and they used it for making living quarters. In the year 2012, Dinosaurs Alive!, an animatronic dinosaur attraction was opened at the park.
