Government Polytechnic College - Bathinda was established in 1985 with the aim of providing high quality in engineering & technology through close interaction with industries initially in 1985. The students were admitted as guest students at Govt. Polytechnic College Hoshiarpur. The classes at this College were started in the year 1986. Government Polytechnic College - Bathinda is situated at Bibiwala Road and is adjacent to Bathinda Cantonment. It is located in a well spread out & meticulously planned campus of 22 acres with lush green surroundings.
The main objective of Government Polytechnic College - Bathinda is to provide Technical Education at Diploma level, thus preparing technicians of a level comparable to the best in the country keeping in view the need of the industry. In Government Polytechnic College - Bathinda Students apart from being prepared for industrial jobs are also trained for self-employment. They are made self sufficient and enterprising so as to be able to understand profitable ventures. Government Polytechnic College - Bathinda started functioning from the inception of the Science Block in the College. The Library operates an open access system. The collection of books etc. is being built at a much faster rate. There are 4500 books in Government Polytechnic College - Bathinda library at present and the number will be doubled at the end of this year. All library books are classified according to DDC and catalogued according to AACR-II. The books are issued to the under-graduate students for a period of 14 days and the faculty for full semester. There are over 291 BIS standards: Multicopies of text books are also available for daily use, for reference and for overnight issue. The library subscribes to 76 Indian & Foreign Journals/periodicals.
Government Polytechnic College - Bathinda has a team of well qualified, experienced and above all dedicated teaching faculty in accordance with all INDIA Council of Technical Education norms. The Polytechnic College Bathinda has well equipped laboratories and workshops to impart practical training in different disciplines. Government Polytechnic College - Bathinda has in total 27 labs & 10 workshops. The Polytechnic College Bathinda has installed 128 kbps BB VSAT connectivity in order to provide internet access in various laborites.

The resident student will be required to pay prescribed fees/funds the resident students shall have to strictly abide by rules and regulations framed for the hostel. They are under the disciplinary control of the Hostel Superintendent and Warden and shall obey all the orders issued from time to time. Any breach of the rules of the hostel by any candidate is liable for the severe punishment amounting both to expulsion from the Hostel and Government Polytechnic College - Bathinda. Girl’s students applying for admission to the Hostel shall submit the applications in the prescribed form to the Hostel Warden Mrs. Sumandeep Kaur.
In Government Polytechnic College - Bathinda the students of regular diploma courses may be taken on educational tours and excursions during the course of their studies as per the guidelines issued by the Director Technical Education and Industrial Training from time to time. For the first/second Semester/First year classes, the tours of one week will be confined to the State of Punjab only whereas the third/fourth semesters students will be taken on 10 days' tour (including journey days) within Northern India.
The Fifth/Sixth Semester/final year students may be taken for 12 days' (including journey days) educational trip/ Long tours of national level, i.e., throughout India.50% of tour expenses will be borne by the students for educational tours outside Punjab State. Students will submit project/tour report to the Principal immediately, which will be discussed and scrutinized by the faculty. 2 teachers up to a group of 30 and 3 for more students will accompany the educational tours.
