Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-JNTU Hyderabad is located in Hyderabad. Known mainly for engineering,
JNTU has campuses in the districts of Kakinada and Anantapur of Andhra Pradesh. It offers programs of study at the undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral levels in almost every field. The University also has a business school that offers MBA program. On 2 October, 1972, by an act of State Legislature,
JNTU was established under a broad policy framework of giving new technological education necessary for the industrial growth of the country in general and more particularly for the State of Andhra Pradesh. Named after the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the University was established with the objectives of strengthening and improving the standards of technological education.
JNTU which is the first technological university of India was established in Andhra Pradesh with headquarters at Hyderabad. The main objective was emphasis on training and research in engineering and applied sciences. A nucleus was created at the University Headquarters in form of Institute for Post Graduate Studies and Research (IST) to provide thrust for research and development in upcoming areas. It has 10 "Schools of Excellence," each school committed to one particular discipline of technical education. Additionally, the stress is on research and development activities in partnership with R&D organizations like TATA, IBM. Majority of the privately owned four-year colleges in Hyderabad offered programs in engineering which were affiliated to their local universities such as Osmania University in Hyderabad and Andhra University in Visakhapatnam. But, majority of such colleges were founded in Hyderabad in the late 1990s and were affiliated to the
JNTU. The University aims to provide Physical and Social Sciences by teaching, research and experimentation or practical training for the development of learning and knowledge in Engineering & Technology.
The Library of
JNTU was upgraded as the University library from 1990 which looks after the needs of Institute of Science and Technology, School of Information Technology, School of Management Studies, Academic Staff College, School of Continuing & Distance Education and
JNTU College of Engineering, Kukatpally. The Library is a three storied building on the main campus of University at Kukatpally.
JNTULibrary provides special services along with the normal services and on-line services. With 48,000 books, 128 technical journals in the fields Science, Engineering, Technology and Management, the Library also subscribes online journals.
JNTU has also established an Academic Audit Cell in the campus. The aim of this cell is to encourage a healthy teaching-learning culture where adequate quality of teaching is ensured in the JNTUH affiliated college system and also to direct the energies of the students in constructive activities. Being one of the first universities devoted to the growth of Science, Engineering, Technology and Management and to the development of human resources, the University sees meaningful partnership between entrepreneurs. An Entrepreneurship Development cell was established at JNTU in December, 2002. The cell is managed by a Co-coordinator is assisted by Project Officer and Research Associates and other staff members. The Cell is presently located in
JNTU College of Engineering, Hyderabad.
JNTU offers post-graduate and research program. Admission to B.Tech and B.Pharm. Programs are based on the merit secured in Engineering, Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) conducted by A.P. State Council for Higher Education. Likewise, admission in
JNTU courses like B.Tech (For three tear Diploma Holders) is based on the merit secured in the Engineering Common Entrance Test (ECET) held by the A.P. State Council for Higher Education. The diploma holders in ECET are also qualified for admission in second year for regular B.Tech courses.
JNTU also conducts an entrance examination for B.Tech. (Correspondence-cum-Contact Course) for working students.
By launching its reputed courses to the overseas students since 2005,
JNTU has extended its educational frontiers internationally. The Directorate of University Foreign Relations is an organization made to take care of every issue concerning their wellbeing. Students from various countries join the University who are excelling in every field thus giving
