The Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal was started in the academic year1999-2000 with the affiliation of Periyar University, Salem. It is a magnificent institution with all the needed facilities and required equipments. It has got a well-established library, well equipped laboratories, spacious playgrounds, and transport and above all, well qualified and dedicated staff members. All of these together help to impart a high standard of education to the rural community.
Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal is committed to strive to maintain high standard and make continual improvements in all its activities and attain 100 % success in University Examinations and secure university ranks every year, to guide students in their pursuits of knowledge through the use of course material, lab manual and other teaching aids.
Besides of it Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal wants to impart practical and need-based education which would prepare the student to adapt to the emerging trends in science and technology through guest lectures, industrial visits, conduct of seminars etc, to encourage students to participate in seminars, quiz competitions, debates, sports and NSS programmes and to provide education to the rural community by updating all facilities such as library and all laboratories in science and technology.
The aim of the Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal is to bring higher education with the reach of all sections of society, to impart quality education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased; innate intelligence is tapped to its zenith, so as to make him/her an asset to society, and to impart socially relevant and need-based education to keep pace with scientific and technological revolution and strive for continual improvement in imparting man - making education.
At the start of the Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal , only the Arts Block was in existence and subsequently the Biotechnology Block, spacious and well-designed laboratories were also added. Presently the infrastructures facilities existing in these laboratories are enough to take up high-tech research. A new block, namely the round block has been designed to accommodate the library and computer laboratory. A new block is under construction exclusively for department of Biosciences.
Every student of Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal shall be liable to pay the fee in full for the year, if he attended classes in a semester or part of a semester and as long as his name is not struck off from the rolls. The tuition fees and other fees shall be paid not later than the fifth working day of the year without fine. The fees with fine will be collected for a further period of five days from the above date.
The names of the Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal students who have not paid the fees even on the last day fixed for the payments with fine will be removed from the rolls. Backward class scholarships, Adi Dravidar Welfare scholarships, National Loan scholarships, State Loan scholarships and a few merit scholarships are made available to eligible students.
The eligible students belonging to backward community, Scheduled caste and Scheduled Tribes can apply through the Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal for sanction of scholarships. The college administration is taking utmost care in getting the sanction from the officials concerned for the applicants. Prizes are given to those scoring 100% attendance during each semester/academic year. Prizes are awarded to students who score centum in any theory subject. The students who secure first 5 University Ranks are awarded special prizes.
The Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal students attend the classes regularly. They will not be permitted inside the class if they are late. As per rules, one period of absence in a session (either F.N. or A.N.) will be reckoned as half a day for the calculation of attendance. The minimum percentage of attendance required to appear for university examination is 75% in each of theory and practical classes.
Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal magazine will be published annually. The magazine offers a forum to the staff and students to record their notable academic, cultural and social activities organized during the year. The Staff members and students can contribute articles in English, Tamil and Hindi. A well-stacked Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal library is functioning in the college. At present there are more than 20,000 volumes, 50 journals, 30 periodicals and over 800 CDs. Students are allowed to borrow books from the Library for their reference. The number of books that they can borrow is intimated during the commencement of each Academic year. The period of retention of borrowed books is ten days.
The Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal students who do not return the books in time will have to pay fine for each such book. The amount per book per day of over keeping will be collected at the time of return of the book. Students are advised to handle and use library books with utmost care. Marking or underlining or writing inside the borrowed books, and tampering in any manner are prohibited. Heavy fine is imposed on defaulters.
The Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal students are responsible for the borrower's tickets issued to them. Duplicate Library ticket is issued on payment of Rs.10/-per ticket. If a book is lost, the person has to replace the book with payment of fine. Otherwise double the cost of the book will be recovered. All students who enter the library should affix their signatures in the register kept for the purpose. Violation of any said rules may lead to the cancellation of borrower's ticket.
The final year students of Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal are facilitated to do project work inside the campus and also in reputed companies. There are two hostels -one each for Boys and Girls. The Principal, the Ex-officio warden, deputy warden, Resident tutors, and Hostel superintendent and hostel staff under the direct control of the Chairman support the hostels and the attached messes.
The application for Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal hostel accommodation should be submitted in the prescribed form. Hostel accommodation will be provided to the extent available. Hostel fee in respect of room rent is payable for each academic year, while the mess bill is collected at monthly intervals. Incase an inmate desires to leave the Mahendra Arts and Science College – Namakkal hostel, the consent of the parents\guardian in writing is essential. If a student desires to leave the hostel during the middle of the year, amount paid towards the room rent will not be refunded on any account. Guests are not allowed to stay in the hostel.
