Established in 2004, Solapur University is the result of untiring efforts of the people of this region. Dr Irish Swami was appointed as the first Vice -Chancellor of Solapur University. The university was established to cater to the regional needs of Solapur District, simultaneously creating global awareness among its students.
Solapur University is the nucleus of higher academic activities in Solapur district of Maharashtra. It came into being in the year 2004. One of the renowned universities of higher education in the state of Maharashtra, it is located on Solapur-Pune National Highway. The university provides opportunities of higher education to rural youth. The jurisdiction of the University is spread over Solapur district.
Solapur University offers undergraduate as well as postgraduate degree courses in a range of subjects including Arts, Science, Social Science, Commerce, Law, Management, Engineering, Technology etc. Admissions to the undergraduate programs are held through MHT-CET and AIEEE under the norms of DTE, Mumbai. Admissions to the postgraduate courses in science and technology are made through entrance test. Admissions to the 50% seats are held on the basis of merit in qualifying exam and remaining 50% seats are filled on the basis of weight age in entrance test.
The Solapur University has reoriented and inducted new courses and Implemented school system for all the course running in university campus. This kind of assessment is much useful to our students when they extend their education outside in other countries. Equipped with the necessary contemporary technology, our university aims to bring up individuals who can meet the expectations of the modern societies of the global world who are open to every kind of scientific, cultural and social novelties.

Solapur University library is mainly used by post-graduate, research students. Study room is available in library. It is managed by Earn and Learn students. Library timings are 8 am to 8 pm. Students, Professors of university as well as affiliated Colleges can use library for reference. Under Inter Library Loan System Books are issued to affiliated colleges for certain period. Daily around 300 people take advantage of Library.

The committee of “Solapur University Board of Sports and Physical culture” has been formed in the first year. Prof. Suresh Pawar is the Coordinator of this committee. Inter University Sports has been organized in Yashwantrao chavan Mahavidyalaya, Karmala for Weight lifting and Softball events. Students of our university represented us in Inter university Sports activity for sport events : Kabaddi(Boys), Kabaddi(Girls), Handball(Boys), Holly ball(Boys), Badminton(Boys), Athletics(Boys/Girls), Swimming/Diving(Boys/Girls), Football(Boys), Hockey(Boys), Softball (Boys), Archery(Boys), Cricket(Boys), Weightlifting(Boys/Girls), Basketball(Boys).
NSS has been started right from the beginning of the Solapur University. It is started in 44 colleges and 66 officers looking after it. Various activities took place under NSS as follows: Volunteers from various colleges worked for repairing and construction of University Internal roads, cleaning the area, tree plantation etc. during 25 Aug 04-7 Sep 04. ”Youth for Water Literacy” Slogan is used by 27 colleges and arranged 10 days awareness camps in rural areas. Various affiliated colleges organized camps for Animal Disease Diagnosis and medicines are distributed free. Pulse polio, Literacy, Dowry, Relief from Addiction these burning issues in society are shown by Road shows, cultural activities and society awakening has been done.
