J S S Law College - Mysore was formally established in 1954 by Jagadguru Sri Veerasimhasana Samsthana Math, Suttur, Mysore District. Today it is the centre of learning that guides more than 250 institutions spread out in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh & abroad. From the beginning, the founder of the Vidyapeetha was convinced that while modern academic education was essential, it was by itself not sufficient to create a free democratic and civilized society. To formalise these concepts His Holiness Dr. Sri. Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji caused the establishment of a number of institutions dedicated to the promotion of General, Collegiate Education, Technical Education, Medical Sciences, Professional Colleges, Training centres, Spiritual Education, Fine Arts, Literature & Ethics.
J S S Law College - Mysore is the first law college in the country to become autonomous. Autonomy of an institution is its right of governance to fulfill its objectives with minimum interference or control from others. The concept of autonomy of a college reserves its right to admit students on merit, determine curriculum, impart teaching, evaluate the performance of students and maintain high standards as a higher educational institution with minimum control by the University and the Government. Autonomous status lays emphasis on what shall be taught, how it shall be taught and how it shall be evaluated. The degree, however, will be awarded by the University of Mysore, Mysore.

J S S Law College - Mysore has a very spacious and well stocked Library which boasts of latest and authoritative legal compendium of all Central and State Acts, Lexicons, Encyclopedia, Dictionaries, Year Books, Digests, Manuals, Legal Reports/ Journals and Commentaries. The Library is well furnished, maintained and equipped with more than 10,000 books, 2,000 bound volumes, 200 electronic materials and other information resources. It works from 8:00 am - 9:00 pm in working days and 8:00 am - 1:00 pm in the holidays. It has subscribed 33 International & National journals/ reports and 27 magazines and newspapers.
J S S Law College - Mysore can accommodate more than 125 readers at a time in the big reading halls of two floors. The Library is being equipped with one online and one offline databases to provide judgments, case laws, bare acts, government notifications, circulars, etc. and four computer systems with internet and wi-fi connection for browsing. It offers various useful information services to be utilized by students and staff to the optimum level. The faculty, staff and students share a deep belief in and commitment to the Institution's programmes. The teaching and learning process happens in a unique atmosphere of mutual respect, participation and interaction.
