The Thyagraj Stadium is a sports stadium located in New Delhi, Delhi, India. It was established on April 2, 2010 as avenue for 2010
Commonwealth Games. The stadium was designed by the architects PTM of
Australia and Kapoor and Associates of
Delhi and was built at a cost of three-hundred crore rupees. The Thyagraj Stadium is owned by the Government of NCT of Delhi and it is named after the South India music composer Thyagraj. The stadium is spread on more than sixteen acres of land and has a seating capacity of more than five-thousand seats including twelve-hundred open seats. Thyagraj Stadium is the first netball and eco-friendly stadium of India built with green technologies. The flooring in the central arena of the stadium is made of
Maple wood. The electricity at stadium is provided by photo-voltaic cells and has a rainwater harvesting and sewage treatment system. The Thyagraj Stadium now houses the
Department of Education of the Government of Delhi.
