Albert Fert is a physicist from France. He was born on 7 March 1938 in Carcassonne, Aude, France. Albert Fert is known for the discovery of the Giant magnetoresistance effect (GMR) in multilayers of iron and chromium. Albert Fert together with Peter Grünberg were awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize in Physics. The various Honors and awards with which Albert Fert has been felicitated with include American Physical Society's International Prize for New Materials (1994), Hewlett-Packard Europhysics Prize (1997), Wolf Prize in Physics (2006) etc.
