Aruna Roy is a social activist of India. She was born on 26 June 1946 in Chennai and is the founder of Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathana. Aruna Roy is widely known for leading the Right to Information movement. She began her career as a civil servant in the Indian Administrative Service (1968-1974). Aruna Roy resigned from the job of civil servant in 1974 and committed herself in social and political campaigns. Aruna Roy has also served as the member of National Advisory Council and Social Work and Research Center. Aruna Roy is the recipient of Ramon Magsaysay Award (2000) and Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award (2010).
