It was established in the year of 1973 as Garhwal University and renamed as Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in the year 1989. In 2009, It has become a Central University. The main campus of the university is situated in Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, India.
