Bharathidasan University – BDU Tiruchirappalli established in February 1982, and was named after the great revolutionary Tamil Poet, Bharathidasan (1891-1968). The motto of the University "We will create a brave new world" has been framed from Bharathidasan's poetic words "pudhiyathoor uzhagam seivom". Bharathidasan University – BDU Tiruchirappalli endeavours to be true to such a vision by creating in the region a brave new world of academic innovation for social change". Bharathidasan University – BDU Tiruchirappalli is located in a sprawling area of over 1000 acres of land on the Tiruchirappalli - Pudukkottai Highway (NH 210). Besides this main campus, there is a city campus at Khajamalai housing the Centre for Distance Education, the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (IECD), the Bharathidasan University – BDU TiruchirappalliTechnology Park and a few more Departments. The Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM) is located in the B.H.E.L. Campus, with whose partnership, the BIM has emerged as one of the top Business Schools of the country.
The Bharathidasan University – BDU Tiruchirappalli Central Library is the heart of any University. The Bharathidasan University – BDU Tiruchirappalli Library established in February 1982. The present magnificent library building started functioning since 29th May 1997 with a carpet area of 6215.56 Sq meters. The building is used to accommodate sections such as Stack, Reference, Circulation, Periodicals, Technical section, Digital Library, Audio Visual Centre and Reprography.
At present the Bharathidasan University – BDU Tiruchirappalli library has in its stock about 95,000 volumes of Books and back volumes and subscribes 204 current journals at national and international level as print copies to cover a wide rang of subjects to facilitate users to access current academic and research literature. It also has on-line access to more than 8000 journals in full text and a few databases of abstracting and Indexing journals and also 8500 Springer E-books on various subjects with perpetual access has been procured to enhance the quality of teaching and research activities. The Bharathidasan University – BDU Tiruchirappalli library provides the following convenient and modern services using ICT to its users both on demand and in anticipation and onsite and remote. The library has nine Professional staff and six Ministerial and Support staff to execute the entire library operations.
Bharathidasan University – BDU Tiruchirappalli offers more than 250 academic programmes that can broadly be classified into Undergraduate, Post Graduate, Master of Philosophy, Diploma/PG Diploma and Certificate Programmes. Apart from the regular courses offered at the Bharathidasan University – BDU Tiruchirappalli, there is a Centre for Distance Education that offers educational programs in Computer Science and Applications, Information Technology, e-Commerce, Bio-Informatics, Gene-Technology, Bank Management, Financial Management, Co-Operation, Library and Information Science.
