The biggest leap towards modernity and development of the Chhattisgarh region was the establishment of Bhilai Steel Plant at Bhilai. This single step proved to be an important factor in the transformation of an agrarian society into a thriving industrial region. These important developments necessitated suitably trained personnel. With above in view, some organizations, industrialists, charitable institutions and philanthropic societies of the region took an initiative for establishing an engineering educational institution. For this a trust was formed and duly registered. The Government of erstwhile Madhya Pradesh accorded the permission to open a self supporting and self financing engineering institute and thus in July 1986, Bhilai Institute of Technology – BIT Durg came.
The Bhilai Institute of Technology – BIT Durg is managed by a Board of Trustees headed by the Managing Trustee. The Trust comprises of leading duly constituted Governing Body consisting of the representatives of the Trust, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), State Government and Affiliating University. industrialists, senior bureaucrats, management experts, peoples’ representatives, and notable social workers. Day-to-day activities of the Institute are controlled and monitored by a board of trustees.
The Central Computer Facility (CCF), inaugurated by the Honb’le Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, is a well-equipped Computer Laboratory for the staff and students of the Bhilai Institute of Technology – BIT Durg , open on all weekdays during regular office hours.
A Computer Committee headed by the Principal of the Bhilai Institute of Technology – BIT Durg governs it.The CCF looks after the hardware and software maintenance of around 1000 systems and 200 peripherals in the Institute located at different academic and administrative departments of the Bhilai Institute of Technology – BIT Durg . The independent computer centers of various academic departments are connected to the Severs of CCF through Wireless LAN. CCF itself contains 250 computers that are connected through wired LAN and fulfils the need of computers for Electronics, IT, Computer science & Engg. and MCA courses. All systems inside the campus are linked by a Local Area Network. There are four servers that function 24 hours of the day in the Centre, providing various services to the Bhilai Institute of Technology – BIT Durg .
In the present age of information explosion libraries have attained the Central position in all Educational and Research organizations. Central Library of Bhilai Institute of Technology – BIT Durg was established in 1986 to supplement classroom teaching and to boost Research. Since then this center of self-learning has been playing an important role in supplementing academic activities and boosting research in the college.
Institute offers hostel accommodation for both boys and girls. Presently it can accommodate up to 450 boys and 150 girls. Hostel admissions Application for admission to hostel should be made in the prescribed form attached with the prospectus with an undertaking to abide by the hostel rules.
