College of Sericulture – Chintamani was established at Chintamani, Chickballapur District during 1995 with the objectives of serving the districts (Chickballapur and Kolar) having maximum potential for Sericultural development and ruralization of Sericultural and Agricultural Education. In 1995 B.Sc. (Seri) Degree Program was started and in 2007, B.Sc. (Agri.) degree programme was added due to increasing demand from the public and the facilities available on the campusCollege of Sericulture – Chintamani is an unique Institution in imparting Agricultural Education in general and Sericultural Education in particular (Only college in whole of Asia to offer Sericultural degree of four years duration).
College of Sericulture – Chintamani under University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore was started during 1995. College of Sericulture – Chintamani is located at Chintamani which is 75 km away from Bangalore. The college is situated at 7th km on Chintamani - Kolar Road. College of Sericulture – Chintamani has been adjudged as the best out Station College by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi during the year 2003. College of Sericulture – Chintamani offers different kind of bachelor and master courses leading to different streams. It is only one education centre in Asia offering B.Sc. (Sericulture) degree programme of 4 years.
Campus of College of Sericulture – Chintamani is spread over 180 acres of land. The college is offering both B.Sc. (Seri.) and B.Sc. (Agri.) degree programmes. Besides this, Agricultural Research Station is conducting research on dry land agriculture, horticulture and other crop research programme. For the transfer of technology to the farmers Krishi Vigynan Kendra and Community Based Tank Management Project Consultancy Services are also functioning efficiently. So far 242 students have obtained B.Sc. (Sericulture) degree from this college out of which 214 are employed in government and other prestige institutes.
College of Sericulture – Chintamani has well equipped lecture halls, laboratories, computer facilities, library, sports facilities, and hostels for both boys and girls besides hands on training units for the specialization for graduation students.
College of Sericulture – Chintamani has well established laboratories, class rooms, seminar hall and excellent field facilities for conducting practicals. The college and hostels have been well connected with internet facilities. The library is completely digitalized and has the facility of browsing with other libraries for on line reference of books and journals available within the country and outside.
The Library of College of Sericulture – Chintamani has created a database of Books, Journals, Theses, Reports and Reference sources and it’s made available through ‘OPAC’. The library has also created databases of current periodicals, CD’s, on-line Journals subscribed and digitized database of Theses available in the Library. The Internet Services has been provided at the GKVK library for the Staff and P.G. Students. Eleven Electronics Journals are also subscribed by the University Library. These e-journals can also be accessed at the GKVK Library, Hebbel campus Library and all the colleges and Departments at the GKVK and Hebbel campuses. Library of College of Sericulture – Chintamani with an initial collection of 4000 accessions is functioning for 12 hours a day. Separate building for auditorium, library, indoor stadium, sports pavilion and staff quarters are coming up fast. Nearly 120 acres of land will be brought under cultivation and several field crops and horticultural crops have been included in the master plan. College of Sericulture – Chintamani will have 84 well qualified teachers and 178 service personnel very soon. At present the library has got a collection of 5000 latest books. The target is to acquire 5000 more books in one or two years. Facilities will be available for most of the outdoor and indoor sports. Hostel facility is available for 140 boys and 50 girls at present. Will be extended to accommodate 400 boys and 250 girls soon.Digitalized Library with over 8000 different kinds of books, 40 Scientific books, Magazine and News papers.Separate Boys and Ladies hostels.Well equipped seminar hall.Modernised Classrooms and labaratories.Well equipped labaratories for teaching and research.Silkworm rearing, reeling and handicrafts demonstrations & production.Special coaching is provided for Students who are taking Competitive exams.
