Commencing in 1982, Holmesglen Institute of TAFE was founded on apprenticeships to deliver quality education nationally and internationally. Located at the South-Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, the institute provides tertiary level training and is the only one in Australia offering upper secondary, vocational and higher education for the betterment of its students. Being the first TAFE institution to offer university pathway programs, Holmesglen Institute now has programs providing a guaranteed pathway to Monash University, Deakin University, La Trobe University and Swinburne University of Technology, situated close to shops, parks, public transport and only 20-30 minutes from the city centre, it becomes a center for learning as well as recreation. Holmesglen works at a level where it has a well established international focus and provides students a secure pathway to university. No effort is spared in providing the student s a safe and healthy lifestyle while they spend their time at Holmesglen. Security is the highest priority and has a concrete structure.
The Courses offered at Holmesglen Institute - Melbourne focus on providing students with practical skills that are readily transferable to the workplace. Not only do such studies tailor the thought process of the student in a practical approach to work but also boost their employment preference. This aspect of their courses provides employers with the knowledge that the graduates have practical experience in applying their skills. For the Building Industry, Holmesglen has expanded to offer courses over a broad range of subject areas.
The recent legislation introduced in Australia opened doors for TAFE institutes to deliver higher education courses at degree level in addition to certificate and diploma level qualifications. Holmesglen institute accepted this opportunity with enthusiasm and developed several entirely new Bachelor's Degrees. In its history, 2008 marked the introduction of a number of new degree and associate degree programs, increasing the Institutes range of higher education courses to 10. New degree programs, most notably the Bachelor of Nursing, commenced in 2009.
With the range of courses offered at Holmesglen Institute increasing rapidly, its current offering is over 600 programs and now the institute delivers not just vocational training for trades but also more academic courses including ten degrees in the areas of business, building, health & social sciences, hospitality, education & languages and arts & design. It has one and next to the Cafeteria is an on-sight Subway. Again, the institute goes out of its way to make sure its students are close to comfort and receive all the “non-essentials” of everyday life.
The Waverley campus is the newest purpose built facility and delivers training in hospitality, childcare, multimedia, animation, filmmaking, tourism and recreation. The rural campus, Eildon Campus focuses on the student and staff opportunities. Holmesglen Institute offers two Charles Sturt University degrees at its Chadstone campus as well as its own degrees.
