Indira Gandhi National Open University - IGNOU Gangtok was established in December, 2000. Its Jurisdictional area covers the State of Sikkim. At Present, there are 4 Regular Study Centres, 2 Programmed Centre and 1 Special Study Centre under it. Moreover, there was 10 Special Programme Centers, established to take care of Students of CPE/BEd Programmes, sponsored by Government of Sikkim. In addition, the Government of Sikkim has decided to activate CLP Programme in all the 40 CICs of the State.
The mission of Indira Gandhi National Open University - IGNOU Gangtok is to advance frontiers of knowledge and promote its dissemination through sustainable open and distance learning systems seamlessly accessible to all, including hitherto unreached, from among whom the leaders and innovators of tomorrow will emerge.
Indira Gandhi National Open University - IGNOU Gangtok, the National Resource Centre for Open and Distance Learning with international recognition and presence, shall provide seamless access to sustainable and learner-centric quality education, skill up gradation and training to all by using innovative technologies and methodologies and ensuring convergence of existing systems for massive human resource required for promoting integrated national development and global understanding. Indira Gandhi National Open University - IGNOU Gangtok provides Diploma, Bachelor Degree, Master Degree and Doctoral program to the college students.
Indira Gandhi National Open University - IGNOU Gangtok is located at Tadong, Gangtok, Sikkim. University library is the most resourceful information centre in the country in the field of Distance Education. The library has the largest collection of books, journals and other related materials in the field of Distance Education, throughout the country. The Library was established in 1986 in tune with the objectives of IGNOU.
Indira Gandhi National Open University - IGNOU Gangtok has a wide network of study, work and programme centres through which it reaches out to its students located in different parts of the country. Academic counseling is an important instructional component of distance teaching/learning and consists of tutoring and general counseling. Work centres have been established for programmes with practical components, i.e. Laboratory Classes.
