History and Operations
The foundation of KTM company begin in 1934 when an Austrian engineer Johann (Hans) Trunkenpolz established a metalworking and locksmith store in Mattighofen. His shop was known as Kraftfahrzeug Trunkenpolz Mattighofen where he used to sold DKW motorcycles and
Opel cars till 1937. In 1953, agent Ernst Kronreif became a shareholder of the company which was then renamed and enrolled as Kronreif & Trunkenpolz Mattighofen. KTM began serial creation of R100 in 1954. With only 20 representatives. Ernst Kronreif passed in 1980. After two years in 1982 Hans Trunkenpolz passed away and his child Erich Trunkenpolz take over the responsibility of the company's administration. Its name was changed once again to Kraftfahrzeug Trunkenpolz Mattighofen.
