Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management - RGIIM Shillong was established by Shri Arjun Singh, HRD Minister on December 1, 2007. IIM Shillong has been set up with a vision of expansion and mobilisation of facilities for offering good quality management education and research in the North Eastern region of India. The decision of coming up with an Indian Institute of Management in the North East was unanimously taken by the Union Minister of Human Resource Development along with the Chief Ministers of the North Eastern States in the Review Meeting held at Shillong during June 2004. Shillong was drafted as the permanent location for the institute after consultation between the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) and the Chief Ministers of States of the region.
Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management - RGIIM Shillong aims to develop unbeatable leaders for an economically and ecologically sustainable society, with the help of a unique curriculum that comprises a mix of compulsory and elective courses, supplemented by specialised courses on industry sectors.
Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management - RGIIM Shillong is currently functioning from a temporary campus in the Mayurbhanj Complex, Nongthymai, Shillong .The serene ambiance of IIM Shillong surrounded by pine trees, lush green lawn and the kaleidoscopic mountains in the backdrop creates an aura of stunned silence amidst nature. Within the heart of Shillong city, the IIMS campus showcases a tranquil environment where the students can concentrate in their regular activities. The Campus includes a main building wherein the administrative office, faculty offices, classrooms, library and conference halls are housed. Apart from the main building, the Institute also has an auditorium, guesthouse, number of small syndicate rooms (separate) and student dormitories within the campus. Faculty residences are situated just adjacent to the campus. Work has commenced on the 120-acre site for the permanent campus.
All the class rooms of
Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management - RGIIM Shillong are aesthetically designed with high tech infrastructure and are fully equipped with modern facilities to help participants in their learning process. Each class room has an interactive white board with Internet connectivity. The class jotting on the board can be mailed to the email accounts of the participants after the class. The classes are also provided with high speed wireless internet connectivity, so that necessary literature from different databases can be downloaded to enhance classroom discussion. Most of the class rooms are provided with wireless microphone facilities. These classrooms are also equipped with videoconferencing facilities. The Institute has undertaken a process of developing a modern Learning Resource Centre with interdisciplinary focus on books, periodicals, national and international journals, working papers and dissertations. It would also cater to a number of online databases. The Institute has augmented the initiative for an IT infrastructure to facilitate all its present and upcoming activities. Both wired and wireless network would serve as the backbone for the techno savvy faculty and students to assist in their regular work requirements.

Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management - RGIIM Shillong , there are both single and double occupancy rooms available for the students. Besides the basic amenities of a cot, mattress, room heater, wardrobe, study table and a chair, in every room, the dormitories are connected with a state of the art Wireless Mesh Network (WMN). There is also a common reading room, common recreation room equipped with table-tennis, carom, and television facilities. Within the confines of the dormitories are a gymnasium, basketball and badminton court present inside the campus. The Institute provides medical aid to all resident students. An on-duty doctor is available in the dispensary of the campus. Among other facilities, The State Bank of India ATM already benefits the campus activities.
