It began in the Science Block of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College Sector 26, Chandigarh and was moved to its new location in 1987. A new course of study i.e. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology was started in the year 1997.

The cell mainly has three objectives i.e. placement, training and counseling. For placements, the cell carries out many activities like arranging campus interviews, communicating with employers for job openings, organizing placement lectures, arranging referral interviews for students, searching and displaying job advertisements etc.
Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Pharmacy - Chandigarh helps to organize practical training for students during their fifth and sixth semester in government hospitals as well as in private clinical laboratories. The cell has made links with over 50 private clinical laboratories in the tri city for training of the students. The assessment criteria take account of attendance & punctuality, proficiency in conducting laboratory tests, practical notebook, initiative/responsibility exhibited, interpersonal relations and behavior/attitude.
