University Institute of Information Technology - UIIT Shimla is a premier institution of excellence in Science and Information Technology that develops professionals and leaders of high calibre imbued with values of entrepreneurship, ethics, and social responsibility. It is functioning under "the Executive Council" of the Himachal Pradesh University since year 2000. It admit students from all over the country to the Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology and imparts training to make them competent, motivated Engineers, Leader, Thinker, and Scientists. The academic program of UIIT is also approved by the All India Council of Technical education.
University Institute of Information Technology - UIIT Shimla has established itself as a nodal centre for engineering and technical education being imparted through the different engineering institutions affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University. It provides academic and curriculum input to the all engineering and technical institutions affiliated with the University.
University Institute of Information Technology - UIIT Shimla functions in the University Campus, Summerhill, Shimla in the second basement floor of Netaji Subhash Building, Summerhill, H.P. University. The Construction of the New and Independent Building has already started.
University Institute of Information Technology - UIIT Shimla over the past years has created a dedicated library exclusively for the usage of students and faculty. It has acquired a good collection of about 2000 books related to Information Technology and allied areas. An amount of more than 3 lac Rs. has been spent to purchase latest editions of quality books needed by the students. A good reading space has also been provided for the students. Library also subscribes to about 20 computer magazines/Journals besides daily newspapers. Institute Library has the plans to create a special section of e-books, CD-ROM and other resource material to provide a resource bank of share wares and other learning material. Students also have access to the Main Library of the University. To provide a rich hands on experience to students a state-of-the-art computer laboratory has been created.To provide good basic understanding of the technologies,institute has a well equipped Basic Electronics, Digital and Microprocessor Laboratories. To provide an inspiring and exciting learning environment, the institute has modern lecture theatres with latest communication and multimedia equipment such as OHPs and LCD projectors.
University Institute of Information Technology - UIIT Shimla Health Center housed in a spacious building in the heart of H.P.University Campus is providing round the clock medical facilities to the students, employees and their dependents. There is also a clinical laboratory for routine tests like urine analysis - estimation of Albumin, sugar microscopic analysis and liver function tests detectable in urine. Examination of perepherl blood count including ESR and bleeding time and clotting time are also carried out. Even blood sugar in done by Glucometer. ECG machine is also available for emergency cases.
The courses offered by
University Institute of Information Technology - UIIT Shimla imparts instructions for Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology (B.Tech.(IT)). Duration The duration of Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology shall be of 4 years spread over 8 Semesters on full time basis. Institute envisages from the beginning itself a close collaboration with the IT industry. This involves holding of workshops in the institute by IT professionals and providing a scheduled hands on training to students by arranging winter and summer trainings to work on projects under the supervision of industry peers and faculty. Placement of the students in the IT industry is the major concern of the Institute. For this purpose a full time placement cell under a faculty member has been created to liaison among the students and prospective employers and to keep a watchful eye on the emerging trends and future needs of the industry.
Placements of the students starts in their 3rd year itself. The current final year batch consists of 66 students. Out of these many students have already bagged positions in leading IT companies.

Leading IT companies come for on-campus recruitment.
