Amar Singh is an Indian politician born on 27 January 1956 in a Rajput family in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. He is a B.A, LL.B from St. Xavier's College and University College of Law, Kolkata. Amar Singh was the general secretary of the Samajwadi Party. On 6 January 2010 Amar Singh resigned from Samajwadi Party and was later dismissed from the party by its chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav, on 2 February 2010. He was widely unpopular due to a number of corruption cases against him and faced a short period in judicial custody in the year 2011.
