Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani belongs to the ruling Al Thani Qatari royal family. He remained the ruler or Emir of Qatar from 27 June 1995 to 25 June 2013. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was born on 01 January 1952 in Doha, Qatar. During the tenure of Sheikh many notable events took place in the country including 2006 Asian Games, Doha Agreement, 2012 UN Climate Change Conference and Hamas–Fatah Doha agreement. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani graduated from Sandhurst Military Academy in England in 1971. His son, Tamim bin Hamad, became the emir of Qatar on 25 June 2013.
