College of Engineering - COEP Pune is an engineering college in Pune founded in 1854 and is the third oldest engineering college in Asia, after the College of Engineering, Guindy and IIT Roorkee. In 2004,
College of Engineering - COEP Pune was given complete autonomy by the state government.
College of Engineering - COEP Pune was one of the first few colleges set up by the British to serve the Indian subcontinent. The keystone of the new college was laid by the Governor, Sir Bartle Frere, on the 5th August. In the beginning, the college was started as the 'Poona Engineering Class and Mechanical School' to train subordinate officers for carrying out public works like buildings, dams, canals, railways and bridges. Soon after, the school became the 'Poona Civil Engineering College', and subsequently in the year 1911, the name was changed to the College of Engineering.
College of Engineering - COEP Pune was at first affiliated to the University of Bombay now Mumbai for a degree of Licentiate in Civil Engineering known as LCE. The certificate course was changed into a degree course and the first class of the Bachelor of Engineering degree graduated in the year 1912. In 1968, the same three year degree was changed to 4 years constituting 8 semesters.

College of Engineering - COEP Pune has a well-resourced library with an integrated automation system installed recently through SLIM 21Ex. It is one of the main resources centers of the institute serving both students as well as the faculty of the Institute. The library has a diverse collection comprising of books, technical reports, and periodicals. The college lays a lot of stress the subjects of engineering education like Physics, Chemistry & Biology which are taught at first year B. Tech for all the branches of engineering.
