Kasturba Gandhi College for Women - Secunderabad was founded in 1973 by the Osmania Graduates' Association under the patronage of the Exhibition Society. Since then, the college has come a long way and has added blocks over the years. Its extensive campus is spread across 3.85 acres of land in centrally located Marredpally, Secunderabad. In 1998 the college celebrated its Silver Jubilee, marking the occasion by laying the keystone for yet another building which was named the Silver Jubilee Block. Starting with meek student strength of 175 in the year 1973, the college now has strength of over 2,500 students and 100 members of teaching staff pursuing value-based education through job-oriented courses conceived to meet the challenges that face the women of India.
Kasturba Gandhi College for Women – Secunderabad is situated in an extensive campus West Marredpally, Secunderabad. The college has a well-stacked library for Graduate & Postgraduate students with about 60,000 books, catering to the program as well as to general knowledge. The students have the advantage of updating their knowledge on a range of subjects with the help of 55 national and international journals, 60 magazines, E-Resources with E-Journals &E-Books and other periodicals.
Kasturba Gandhi College for Women - Secunderabad arranges both, one day picnics and excursions to places of historical interest at least once a year. To help the students beat the pressures of competition, and of life in general, a counseling cell is set up, where guidance and help is provided for them to deal with personal, social and vocational problems. To ensure that economically backward students are not deprived of education for want of money, the college gives scholarships to SC, ST and BC students. Meritorious students are also entitled to merit scholarships. A minimum of 75% attendance is the criterion for availing this opportunity.
Kasturba Gandhi College for Women - Secunderabad department of Physical Education, headed by Ms Deva Krupavaram, was set up in the year 1976. Vast ground in the campus allow the students to play outdoor games like Cricket, Tenni-Koit, Lawn Tennis, Basket-Ball, Volley-Ball, Kho-Kho, Khabaddi, Soft-Ball, Hand-Ball etc. The Department also has facilities for indoor games like Chess, Carroms, Table-Tennis, Shuttle, Badminton etc. A well equipped Gym has high-tech equipment and exercising gadgets. This is where the NCC helps young students to discipline themselves. The college has a very active NSS unit as well which conducts several programmes that are service-orientated. NSS volunteers can undertake a project of their choice from the prescribed and sanctioned list of projects and put in atleast 120 hours of community service to obtain a Merit Certificate.
Kasturba Gandhi College for Women - Secunderabad offers various courses at the undergraduate level in subjects like Arts, Science and Commerce; the college has introduced vocational courses with the support of UGC in BSc with Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics and in BCom with Tax Procedures and Practices. The college has also introduced Biotechnology, Microbiology, and Genetics and has also moved into the Computer era by offering BSc with Computer Science and BCom Computers. Post Graduate courses are also being offered and presently MCom, MCA, MBA, MSc (Computer Science) and MSc (IS) are available for those girls interested in acquiring higher qualifications. Along with the graduate and post graduate programs, it also offers Certifiicate, Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma courses.
