MVM Government College of Arts and Science – Dindigul was established in the year 1966 in Dindigul by the Tamilnadu Government as there was no college for women in the district. It was started with an intake of 175 students with pre-university, undergraduate courses and a hostel to accommodate 50 students. It was affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University. Thiru M.V.Muthiah volunteered to donate 40 acres of land and an amount of Rs.1,00,000/ towards the construction of a new spacious building for the college. So it was named after him. Due to the continuous nurturing by the Government of Tamilnadu and our Donors, it has steadily developed into one of the most-sought-after Arts College in a short span. In 1975, MVM Government College of Arts and Science – Dindigul was shifted to the new building. In 2003, there was a change and the college became affiliated to Mother Teresa Women's University, Kodaikkanal. The Principal, 86 faculty members, one Librarian, one Physical Directress and 31 Non-Teaching staff contributes to the development of the college. Totally 1708 students get benefited. So far 38 convocations have been celebrated conferring degrees on the graduates.

The institution from its inception is blessed with the facilities like laboratories, co-operative stores, canteen, library, playground and hostel inside the campus itself. We gratefully acknowledge the help of Mr. N.S.V.Sidhan, the Member of Parliament by giving Rs. 2,60,000/- for the Department of Computer Science to purchase the computers in 1998 and Rs.27,00,000 for the construction of an auditorium from his constituency development fund in 2007.

Daily, weekly and monthly magazines are available. And the process of converting this library into a Digital Library is going on.

So MVM Government College of Arts and Science – Dindigul students take to games and sports having been provided with play courts such as football, basket ball, kho-kho, tennis, badminton, exercise bar courts. Ours is the biggest playground in the district. With the availability of the play ground area 30, 650 sq. meters. Our teams regularly take part in inter-collegiate and inter-university tournaments. Service to society comes naturally to MVM Government College of Arts and Science – Dindigul students. They donate blood and flood the blood banks. Service to humanity is service to God-having their base on this adage three units of NSS render their service with an ambition to uplift the downtrodden. Every year the units conduct 10 day camp in the most backward villages. During the camp the village people are facilitated to get medical aid, awareness about HIV/AIDS, hygiene, eradication of child labor, women empowerment, and importance of education and construct rooms for their essential needs and financial aid.
The students are being motivated to participate in various cultural activities and competitions both inside and outside the campus and thereby providing an opportunity for them to show their talents and gain confidence. They have won laurels. Fine Arts Day is one of the major function in MVM Government College of Arts and Science – Dindigul . Training camps are arranged for the students to get trained in the first aid. Various programmes inside and outside the campus are planned to create awareness in first aid, blood donation and eradication of HIV/AIDS. People in Dindigul approach the college for blood from our students whenever there is an emergency. Students are also willing to help in need.
Parent Teachers' Association was formed in 1998 to enable better understanding between parents and teachers. The building committee shoulders the responsibility to plan and supervise the work in MVM Government College of Arts and Science – Dindigul undertaken by the Public Works Department. Various other committees are also formed to look into the functioning of Co-operative Stores, Physical Education, Old Students' Association, Cleanliness, Discipline, and Sale of Application and to monitor the utilization of funds from University Grants Commission (UGC). An Old Students' Association has been functioning effectively since 1969 and it takes up the responsibility of arranging for the convocation and communicating to the old students. Students have been placed in various Government departments, prestigious Educational Institutions, Police departments and software companies. Many students are placed in the software companies abroad.
