The
Airports Authority of India (AAI) is an aviation sector Industry under the
Ministry of Civil Aviation headquartered in New Delhi, Delhi, India. It was established on April 1st, 1994 by the merger of former National Airports Authority and International Airports Authority of India. The Authority is responsible to establish, manage and maintain the civil aviation infrastructure in India. The Airports Authority of India manages more than one hundred and twenty airports including various International airports, Custom airports, Domestic airports and Civil Enclaves at Military Fields. To safeguard the safety of aircraft operations the AAI has installations at all the airports and other locations. The Authority has four training establishments and the authority is also responsible for the establishment and modification of passenger terminals at all the airports. The functions of the Airports Authority of India include management of runways, parallel taxiways and apron, arrangement of visual aids. The AAI is also responsible for the communication and navigation aids, provision of passenger facilities at the passenger terminals at all the airports and management of cargo terminals at the International as well as domestic airports. The Airports Authority of India provides employment to more than twenty-thousand people throughout the country and it is also involved in various consultancy projects.
