Central University of Karnataka – CUK Gulbarga has been established by an Act of the Parliament (No. 3 of 2009) at Gulbarga, Karnataka. It is one of the 16 new Central Universities established by the Government of India during the UGC XI Plan Period to address to the concerns of ‘equity and access’ and to increase the access to quality higher education by people in less educationally developed districts which have a Graduate Enrolment Ratio of less than the national average of 11%.

It is thus necessary that new universities take an active and synergetic role in evolving as socially conscious beacons of knowledge by constantly innovating and updating knowledge and information. Central University of Karnataka – CUK Gulbarga keenly identifies with these thoughts and will strive to be a path-breaker in its academic endeavours both in terms of the content and quality of teaching. A strong interdisciplinary approach, coupled with a cafeteria based credit semester system is thus the natural choice for this new university.

Central University of Karnataka – CUK Gulbarga with its territorial jurisdiction all over Karnataka has been initiated its activities from the academic year beginning August 2009 in keeping with the philosophy of achieving and maintaining the highest levels of academic excellence, sensitivity to equity and access in enrolment and recruitment and emerging as a premier national educational and research institution in the country. 621 acres of land at Kadaganchi Suntanur villages on the Gulbarga-Waghdhari Inter-State Highway in Aland taluka identified by the Karnataka State Government has been handed over to the university, where the work of construction of boundary wall is nearing completion and work on various buildings for the first phase of campus development will begin soon. Central University of Karnataka – CUK Gulbarga is functioning from its temporary premises at the IInd floor of Karya Soudha, Gulbarga University Campus where the administrative office, classrooms, library, computer lab and other infrastructure is presently located. Central University of Karnataka – CUK Gulbarga offer different kind of undergraduate, Postgraduate courses.
Central University of Karnataka – CUK Gulbarga Library provides access to information not just to widen the horizons of the users’ knowledge but also to support a host of their learning activities that range from book learning and newspaper reading to using e-journals and reading e-books. Librarians are not just the gatekeepers here but the facilitators in a larger process aimed at improving the quality of life of the individual. We are driven by the motto to strive hard with commitment and dedication, which requires team spirit and tenacity to serve the strategic information requirements of the academic community on a continual basis pin-pointedly, exhaustively and expeditiously.
Central University of Karnataka – CUK Gulbarga Library aims to be a leading academic research library in the area. The eclectic collection that constitutes the Library currently includes over 1,557 books. The Library resources comprise encyclopaedias, dictionaries on various subjects, general collections, valuable source books, critical works as well as specific skills-related books on Personality Development, Time Management and Communication Skills. The Library subscribes to research e-journals, besides subscribing to daily news papers, magazines and journals.
Computer Centre is available for the use of students, research scholars, faculty and non-teaching staff Central University of Karnataka – CUK Gulbarga . The building wide computer network - Computer Lab, faculty rooms, Library, Administration and Section Office are connected to the LAN, through Cat-6 Cable, high-speed CISCO switches and Router. 1Gbps internet access is well utilized by both the students, research scholars, faculty, administrative officers and non-teaching.
