Government Polytechnic - Ambala began as Government/ Industrial School in 1929 & later on developed to Metal Works Institute in 1933, was recognized in 1948 & was thereafter known as Government Technical Institute. In 1958, the Institution was renamed as Government Polytechnic - Ambala. It is situated on Ambala City- Chandigarh road at a distance of 1 K.M. from the Bus Stand & 1.5 K.m. from the Railway Station. The institution is spread over a land area of 24.6 acres.

Government Polytechnic - Ambala department of Architecture Assistantship offers a three years Diploma course with a sanctioned intake of 44 students/year under state board of Technical Education , Haryana based on semester system with the aim of imparting architectural education and training of assistants to develop overall aptitude in architecture and well adjusted both in profession and society.
A bus & a jeep have been provided by the department of Government Polytechnic - Ambala to carry out above activities smoothly. The New modern equipment has been procured under World Bank Scheme to establish new & modernization of existing labs.
