Higher Colleges of Technology – HCT Dubai was founded in 1988 by Federal Decree. The Higher Colleges of Technology – HCT Dubai is the largest higher educational institution in the UAE, having a well-respected reputation for innovative learning. Over 18,000 students attend 16 modern men's and women's campuses in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, Fujairah and Madinat Zayed/Ruwais. Higher Colleges of Technology – HCT Dubai offers over 90 different, English-taught programs in Applied Communications, Business, Engineering, IT, Health Sciences and Education at various levels. All programs are designed in consultation with business and industry leaders to ensure the students’ skills are job-relevant and to the highest standards. More than 90 different programs are on offer in a range of Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Higher Diploma, Bachelor Degree or Master's level. Students complete a Foundations Year prior to entering their chosen program major.

Higher Colleges of Technology – HCT Dubai students have taken part in cultural visits to many overseas destinations including Turkey, Egypt, Italy, USA, Canada and the UK, while other students have undergone their work placement in overseas companies in these countries, as well as others, like Norway and Austria. Study opportunities internationally are also offered. Each year a group of Higher Diploma program students from the Higher Colleges of Technology – HCT Dubai system attend a joint summer English language course in Cambridge, UK. In addition, a number of groups of HCT students benefitted from language and cultural courses in London and Scotland last summer. Every year Higher Colleges of Technology – HCT Dubai students are among the winners of the most prestigious awards in higher education such as the Fulbright Scholarships for study abroad and the Law and Business Fellowship Program for Middle Eastern Women.
The Higher Colleges of Technology – HCT Dubai is organizing the first UAE high-tech entrepreneurship internship for graduates in partnership with Wesley Clover. The internship is to establish a new company based on existing technologies but aimed at a niche market client group. The newly established company will be formed by selecting four or five top-end male HD or Bachelor students graduating in the 2008/2009 academic year. The first Higher Colleges of Technology – HCT Dubai group will use Mitel's technology and their customer base in the development of this new product and/or technology.
