In pursuance with the policies of the Government of India to start Engineering colleges in emerging technologies in rural areas, the Kavikulguru Institute of Technology and Science – KITS Nagpur was established at Ramtek during the academic year 1985-86. The Institute is named after the great poet Kavikulguru Kalidas. Our beloved former Prime Minister Hon. Sri. P. V. Narsimha Rao, the then M.P. from the Ramtek Lok Sabha constituency was instrumental in setting up the Engineering College here. The gist of Lord Krishna's intensive teaching on self-Sraddhavan Labhate Jnanam forms the guiding spirit and motto of the Kavikulguru Institute of Technology and Science – KITS Nagpur.
The Vodithala Education Society was established with the objective to establish, aid and maintain Educational and other Institutions, to impart education at all stages for the promotion of Engineering, Medicine, Law, Commerce, Literature, Arts and Sciences and all other subjects for diffusion of useful knowledge in Andhra Pradesh and anywhere in India and to devise ways and means and accord facilities for candidates to specialize in all or any of the above subjects.Vision of Kavikulguru Institute of Technology and Science – KITS Nagpur is to develop the Institute into a center of excellence in professional and technical education.

It is Omni-directional fountain for quenching the scholastic thirst of the student and faculty of all departments. KITS library performs this role excellently, with wide collection of more than 40000 rare and valuable reference books, hand books whose cost estimated to be around 1.5 crores, and subscription of 150 journals from all over the world including famous publishers like ISTE, IETE, IEEE, ASCE, ASME etc. library functions from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm.
Hostel facility of Kavikulguru Institute of Technology and Science – KITS Nagpur being located in a rural area hostel accommodation is planned and provided to meet the demands of the students by the VODITHALA EDUCATION SOCIETY. There are exclusive student residences for both boys and girls separately. 60% of the boys and 80% girls are provided hostel accommodation in the campus.
Seminar and Conference Hall of Kavikulguru Institute of Technology and Science – KITS Nagpur each Engineering department of the Institute has a seminar/conference room for all the student presentations, training programs, quizzes and guest lectures and also student clubs and association activities. These seminar/conference halls are extensively used by all the department associations/clubs.

The Sports and Games activities are held throughout the academic year from July to February for both boys and girls. The Indoor Games Complex, built to international standards, has facilities for basket-ball, badminton, table-tennis, caroms and chess and it has a gymnasium. Kavikulguru Institute of Technology and Science – KITS Nagpur has a well-equipped 12 and 4 stations gymnasium and weight lifting sets and about 140 students make use of these facilities every day. Apart from this, outdoor games facilities like Cricket, foot ball, basket ball, Volley ball, Hand ball, Kabbadi, Kho-Kho, Lawn tennis and Tracks (200mts) are also available for sports and games purposes.

The students who regularly practice yoga and meditation they make use of the meditation center also.
