He was born on January 20, 1971 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S. His career started with the band named Roots in 1993 with Questlove on percussion, Tariq Trotter and Malik B on vocals, Josh Abrams (Rubber Band) on bass, and Scott Storch on keyboards. The band's first album Organix was released by Relativity Records in 1993.
